Battery voltage measurement guide

1. Introduction to multimeter

We can use a multimeter to measure the voltage, current and resistance of an object.

Pay attention to the following points when measuring:

a. Insert the black wire into the “COM” port of a multimeter.

b. When measuring voltage or resistance, insert the red wire into the “V/Ω” port of a multimeter.

c. When measuring current, insert the red wire into the “A” or “mA/μA” port of a multimeter.

d. Please set the multimeter dials correctly, “V” for voltage, “Ω” for resistance, “A” for current, “-” for DC and “~” for AC.

f. Please place the black probe on the negative side of the measuring object and the red probe on the positive side. If the positive and negative terminals are placed backwards, the multimeter will measure a negative value.

2. Measuring the total voltage

The video below demonstrates how to measure the total voltage of solar storage battery:

a. Insert the black wire into the “COM” port of a multimeter.

b. Insert the red wire into the “V” port of a multimeter.

c. Rotate the dial of a multimeter to DC voltage.

d. Place the black probe on negative battery terminal and the red probe on positive terminal.

e. Read multimeter measurements.

3. Measuring the battery core voltage

3.1 Remove the cover

Please power-off the solar storage battery before using a screwdriver to remove the screws and remove the cover.

3.2 Remove battery module housing

3.3 Measure individual battery core voltage

The video below demonstrates how to measure the voltage of individual battery core:

a. Insert the black wire into the “COM” port of a multimeter.

b. Insert the red wire into the “V” port of a multimeter.

c. Rotate the dial of a multimeter to DC voltage.

d. Place the black probe on negative side of battery core and the red probe on positive side.

e. Read multimeter measurements.

3.4 Measure battery module voltage

The video below demonstrates how to measure the voltage of battery module:

a. Insert the black wire into the “COM” port of a multimeter.

b. Insert the red wire into the “V” port of a multimeter.

c. Rotate the dial of a multimeter to DC voltage.

d. Place the black probe on negative side of battery core and the red probe on positive side.

f. Move the red probe to the positive side of the next battery core.

g. Please repeat step f until the last battery core is measured.

h. Read multimeter measurements.
